What is a PDF Text Editor?
A PDF text editor lets you change the content of a PDF document. This tool works as an overlay editor: you place new text on a page, and you can first hide old text with a solid-color box. The result is saved as a new PDF you can download.
How to Edit a PDF
- Upload a PDF with the Upload PDF button or by dragging it in.
- Open the page you want to change using Prev, Next and the zoom controls.
- Add text, or cover the old text and type a replacement on top.
- Adjust size, color, bold, italic and underline.
- Press Download Edited PDF.
Features
- Drag-and-drop or browse upload, with file name and size shown.
- Page preview with zoom, fit-to-screen and page navigation.
- Add text, move it, resize its width, change size and color, and apply bold, italic and underline.
- Solid cover boxes to hide old text before placing replacement text.
- Undo, redo, delete and reset.
- Download of the edited PDF.
Limitations: existing PDF text is not edited in place like in a word processor. A cover box hides old text visually, but the original text may still exist in the file data, so do not use it for secure redaction. Added text uses standard Helvetica, so characters outside the Latin set are replaced with "?". Scanned PDFs are images, so you can cover and overlay on them but their text cannot be selected. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
Privacy
Your PDF is opened and edited in your browser, and this tool does not send the file to any server of its own. The PDF libraries (PDF.js and pdf-lib) are loaded from the cdnjs content delivery network when you first upload a file, so your browser contacts that CDN to get the code, not to send your document. Nothing is stored permanently by this tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit a PDF without an API key?
Yes. The editor runs with open-source JavaScript libraries in your browser and needs no API key or account.
Does this PDF editor work on mobile?
Yes. The layout and controls are designed for phones, tablets and desktops. Very large PDFs may be slow on low-memory phones.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed locally in your browser. Only the library code is downloaded from a CDN.
Can I download the edited PDF?
Yes. Use the Download Edited PDF button. Your added text and cover boxes are included.
Can scanned PDFs be edited?
Not as text. You can cover areas and add new text over the scanned image, but no text recognition (OCR) is performed.
Is there a file-size limitation?
This tool accepts PDFs up to 50 MB. Your device memory may set a lower practical limit.
